Today Elise kept pointing at the book shelves and saying "carter." I was racking my brain trying to figure out who or what "carter" could possibly be. Then suddenly we had a breakthrough! I looked up and noticed Elise's bucket of crayons and markers on the top of the shelf. She wanted to colour! Communication can sure be frustrating at times, but the smile on her face when I finally understand what she is saying is one fantastic reward.
When Elise was a baby I used to describe my experience of being a mother as similar to having a very small, angry boss who would yell at me in foreign languages. Now that my boss is learning English, she is easier to communicate with, but we still have some difficulties which tend to end in meltdown! I'd like to say that the meltdowns are always on Elise's end, but if I'm honest, I have to admit that communicating with a frustrated toddler tends to lead to an equally frustrated Mom.

She doesn't yell nearly as much as Elise did as a baby. As long as she is fed and dry she tends to be happy to lay on a blanket on the floor. She just loves to watch her busy big sister whirling about the house!
