Last night was bath night!
Despite her big sisters's attempts to cheer her up with song and dance, sweet little Clara couldn't be convinced.

Clara Gray Lynn was born Monday morning, November 24th at 8:31 weighing exactly 7lbs. She is lovely! On Tuesday we had a visit from the two best big sisters a little girl could ask for! And on Wednesday they sent us home! We are settling in just fine! It's good to finally have our sweet baby in our arms! Yesterday we celebrated my birthday! I baked a cake while Josh was putting the girls to bed then spent the morning of my birthday trying to micro-manage the icing of my cake. It is really hard to micro-manage a three year old and a not quite two year old who have been handed a cake and a bowl of icing. I ended up icing the cake myself, but not before the icing was thoroughly filled with cake crumbs, and a good portion of the cake needed to be rebuilt. I then gave each of the girls a bowl of sprinkles, a spoon and some candies and set them free to decorate. It didn't take long before Elise started pushing the little candies as far into the cake as her little fingers could reach. Tori began to copy her but with spoon in hand. Then Elise started to copy Tori and the next thing I knew, they had dug a hole in the cake and dumped their candy and sprinkles into it. And ta-da! Isn't it beautiful? We went out for supper where someone else in the restaurant sneakily paid for our dinner! What a lovely birthday suprise! Then came home to blow out the candles and feast on the most beautiful of cakes to ever be decorated! Tori was a little late in blowing out the candles but quickly learned what to do! Look at that face! There is something wonderful about being a mom and having a birthday! These girls were just so thrilled to decorate my cake and help me blow out the candles! Sometimes it's hard to see past all the demands and urgent "needs" so often expressed with great and high pitched emotion. It's so wonderful to watch them do their best for someone else! And it's extra special when I get to be the one they are giving their best for! Josh took our tough little Tori in for her immunizations this morning. She has never really experienced side effects from any of her shots in the past, but I'm kinda sorta hoping the sleepy side effect hits her hard! An extended afternoon nap today would seem perfect for this ready to pop mama! Here I am! I'm not the only one growing around here! When Tori was immunized today she was also weighed and measured. I'm constantly being told how much bigger Tori is than Elise was. It looks like she's catching up to her big sister, but I figure it's just because of how quickly they grow in the first 18 months. If I remember correctly Tori is a little older than Elise was for this round of immunizations but here are the stats: Tori and Elise both measured 32.5 inches tall, and Tori weighed in at 21 pounds. That's one pound heavier than her big sister was. I love watching these girlies grow! These girls asked if they could paint today. I said yes! I like saying yes. Sometimes it just seems too hard to get that word out though! Everytime I tell Elise about something I liked to do when I was young she asks "did your mom say no?" Hmmm I sometimes wonder if she is starting to associate moms with the word no. Yikes! Just when I thought we had finally made it through last year's big bag of treats the time came to do it all again. My little Elephant was so very excited, but my little calf wasn't so sure. Everytime I showed her the little cow suit she would run in fear crying "moo" and looking for somewhere to hide. She's been acting afraid of some of her stuffed animals lately too. Who knows what's going on in her big imagination. When the time came to get ready to go she with her most serious face on, let me slip her into the little cow suit and into the wagon. And they were off. For a whole hour and a half they knocked on doors, threatening the residents of our fine community with the promise of tricks unless they handed over the treats. They must have looked quite menacing because the treats came pouring in. It was quite an exciting night following a very exciting week. Now we are looking forward to a, much needed, quiet Saturday. Here is a little glimpse of what Thursday afternoon looked like at our house. Poor girl just couldn't hack waiting until after her sister's dance class to have a nap. |
